Follow one woman's journey to inner peace, physical health and financial well-being from young adulthood to the present. Many times in our lives we just take things as they come, figuring that, well, this is just the way it is going to be for me. Joan did not settle for this answer and began her quest to find her connection to this world, along with the help of her inner guidance, to eventually realize her abilities as an innovative entrepreneur and natural healer.
Her spiritual voyage began in 1975 when she gave all of her things away and wandered for a number of years. Using her intuition as a guide, Joan’s journey brought her to many new and exciting places, meeting many new people who would play an important role in her "coming into her own “. With the help of family, friends and often times strangers, Joan found her way through life to eventually connect with her inner happiness, physical and emotional well-being, and financial success.
Encountering set-backs on the way, Joan sought help through spiritual leaders as well as conventional ones and learned how to affect the series of illnesses and financial conditions that plagued her throughout her own life.
Take this exciting journey with her as we see how one woman's determination brought her to where she is today.

I grew up in spiritual circles and found listening to Joan's Podcasts refreshing because she's so levelheaded and practical on her show, or rather the bulk of the episodes that I've had a chance to listen to. I was greatly jarred when reading the beginning of the book, of her relationship with someone who channels an other worldly being known as "Mother". I stuck with it because also in the beginning of the book she states that she has come to "believe that what other people often attribute to God, guides, angels, and The Universe actually comes from the part of us that exists in other dimensions." This makes sense to me.Despite the trepidation about channeling, the book flowed and was a page turner. She has lead a very interesting, nomadic life. I would have liked more exposition on her concluding thoughts. The book is mostly of her struggles and then all of a sudden her thoughts change, and then the book ends. For instance, how did she reach her conclusion that we are connecting to ourselves in other dimensions? In other words, I would have liked a rich explanation of her present day thinking. Her writing of her present day frame of mind seemed hurried. Wanting more from today's Joan is a personal preference. If that "more" was added, this could easily be a four star book.

The Search for Connection A Spiritual Journey to Physical Emotional and Financial Health Joan Sotkin 9780974171906 Books Reviews
This book was a great read, I just wish it was longer as I was sorry to see it end. This book feels like a friend sharing her past in a conversation and it allows me to be a part of her journey, which helps me to follow mine.
I have followed Joan for over a decade, watching her overcome health issues and still help so many from her website, with her great podcasts, products and services. She is one of my greatest heroes. I hope I get to meet her and thank her personally for all she has given and shared. Joy
Joan Sotkin is amazing. Her book is a must read for those who love real-life adventurous people who throw convention out the window, survive and continue to thrive in the game of life. This is a chronological tale that will have you laughing, shaking your head, and saying "WOW!" I had heard bits and pieces that are in the book because I have listened to Joan's podcast for over 10 years and have had her as a coach since 2012. Reading the book, I now understand how Joan gets to the heart of my business and personal issues so quickly and in a way that allows me to understand and make wise decisions and take concrete, positive action. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I purchased this book on a whim after hearing Joan being interviewed on a podcast I hadn't listened to in months before then. Now I know why! It's a well-written, interesting tale of her journey to true fulfillment and prosperity. She lets us see all the twists and turns along the way, meeting some of the interesting characters that showed up in her life (including Tony Robbins). It's a pretty quick read with plenty of inspiration to tuck into your back pocket on your own journey.
Joan Sotkin brings an element of earth to what some may have otherwise perceived as "woo woo". Exploring crystal healing, debilitating physical and mental blocks, financial mindset issues and more. Joan gives an authentic account of her journey. This book is chuck full of real-life wisdom bits. The kind that you've known forever but somehow needed reminding. It might just be the parallels in my life as a gemstone slingin' entrepreneur with a slue of digestive issues or it might be her tell-it-how-it-is approach to synchronicity and learning to hear your own truth. Regardless, this is a must-read for those beginning to explore their own spiritual path, those embarking on an entrepreneurial journey or even those simply seeking deeper connections in this world.
I’m so glad Joan Sotkin wrote this book and shared her experiences. We need life stories like this during these cynical times. Our world is so divisive, competitive and mistrustful and it is so, so, so refreshing to spend literary time with someone who doesn’t claim to have the entire mystery of this complex universe figured out but who is open to being touched by what is special, magical and awe-inspiring—beyond practical consciousness and awareness. (Whew, a long sentence! Sorry.)
Sometimes, talk of energy fields, spiritual dimensions, crystal healings and the like can seem as if these modalities are meant only for a few self-selected people who are ready and able to believe and understand. But I found Sotkin’s tale of living life while attuned to these forces to be very inclusive to the reader and also thoughtful, generous and full of wonder and appreciation. I really cared about her as she went through her phases and transformations. It seems she was as amazed by what was happening to her—and disconcerted by her troubles—as you or I would be in the same situation.
The Search for Connection is basically the story of the author’s young adult life, her struggles and insights, and specifically how she gave away everything she owned not once but twice, in search of…well, that’s the heart of the book. What was she seeking? How did she do this? Well, many of the stories take place in California, so if you’re into the retro-cool Venice ambience of the 1970s, you will simply love reading about her “hippie” (my word, not hers) days as she struggled to alleviate health problems while dealing with shaky finances and an overpowering, expanding consciousness. She doesn’t talk about drug use, so I’m assuming that was not a part of this, which makes her memoir all the more fascinating to read.
Incidentally, this little book is just dense with self-care tips. Chapter after chapter, I couldn’t stop looking up on the Internet people and ideas that the author casually referenced, so that I could learn more. Sotkin was a health seeker and health oriented at a time before the health industry became the behemoth that it is today.
